Graduate Student Program

SWJTU provides quality graduate courses for overseas students applying for the Graduate Program.

Students who have successfully completed course studies and passed the thesis defense shall be granted the Graduation Certificate and
the Master's Degree/Doctoral Degree.

The duration of the master's degree is 3 years, and the duration
of the doctoral degree is 4 years.

The courses will be taught in English or Chinese.


1. Application Deadline and Requirements

January 1-June 30

The age of the applicant required for the master's program and the doctoral program shall be in line with relevant national provisions;

Applicants for learning in Chinese teaching shall pass180 scores for the HSK 5 at least.

2. Application Procedures

(1) Register at: http://en.swjtu.edu.cn/;

(2) Click the "Apply Online"→"Apply"→"Self-sponsored"→"Master Degree Candidate" or "Doctoral Candidate" in sequence.

(3) Fill in relevant information to complete the application. 


3. Tuition and Fees

Tuition fees for Master's Programs:

RMB 22,000 /year (economics & management/liberal arts)

RMB 25,000 /semester (science/engineering)

RMB 26,000/ semester (arts/architecture)


Tuition fees for Doctoral Programs:

RMB 26,000/year (economics & management/liberal arts)

RMB 36,000/semester (science/engineering)


4. Scholarship

SWJTU assists undergraduates in applying for the following scholarships:

(1) Chengdu Government Sister-Cities Scholarships

(2) The Belt and Road Scholarship

(3) Chinese Government Scholarship Sino-US Degree Program


5. Application Materials

(1) One copy of a valid passport;

(2) Notarized certification materials

Applicants for master's degree, please provide scanned copies of the bachelor's degree certificate.

Applicants for doctoral degree, please provide scanned copies of master's degree certificate.

●For students at school, they must submit certification materials of their schools in order to specify their student status and expected graduation date;

●Non-Chinese or English documents must be accompanied by notarized Chinese or English translations.

(3) Transcript (Chinese or English); Non-Chinese or English transcript must be accompanied by notarized Chinese or English translations;

(4) Students whose instruction language is Chinese must pass the HSK 5 test or above; Students whose instruction language is English and are non-native speaker must hold the excellent English skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing and can smoothly communicate professional research with the supervisor. Please upload the copy of TOFEL, IELTS or other English skill certificate if you have.

(5) Two recommendation letters in Chinese and English provided by associate professors or above-level experts and scholars in related fields, highlighting applicants' academic research capabilities, with their autographs, phone numbers and email addresses.

(6) For applicants from abroad, please provide qualified medical certificate. All the items listed in the Physical Examination Record for Foreigners http://www.csc.edu.cn/studyinchinamust be included. The Physical Examination Record for Foreigners without complete information, the signature of the attending doctor, the official seal of corresponding hospital, or the stamped photo of the applicant is deemed invalid. Please keep properly the original physical examination report and note that it is only valid for six months.

(7) Resume (From high school to the date of application)

(8) A study plan or professional scientific research plan for postgraduate period with no less than 1,000 words.

(9) Others: all kinds of certificates, and other award certificates reflecting personal abilities such as in arts and sports.

(10) Materials to prove the financial support: a letter of financial guarantee (only RMB or USD) issued by the bank accredited by the embassy or consulate of the People's Republic of China in foreign countries, the amount of which is tuition for one academic year or more;
