Southwest Jiaotong University Chinese Language Learning Programs for the 2025/2026 Academic Year

Southwest Jiaotong University is a key national university directly under the Ministry of Education of China. It is one of the first universities selected for the national initiatives such as the “Double First-Class” program, the “211 Project”, the “985 Project Innovation Platform for Priority Disciplines”, and the “2011 Collaborative Innovation Plan”. The university has a graduate school and is located in Chengdu, a city known for its rich historical and cultural heritage, its status as a national central city, and its role as a core city in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle.

Chinese Language Learning Programs focus on Chinese language learning and culture experiencing. The School of International Education of SWJTU provides various Chinese language and cultural courses to international students. Students will be allocated to appropriate levels according to the results of Chinese language proficiency test on arrival. Experienced teaching staff and small class size ensure the most efficient teaching and learning.

I. Application Dates

Spring Semester: Now to January 10, 2025

Fall Semester: Now to June 30, 2025

Note: The spring semester runs from March to July; the fall semester runs from September to January of next year.

II. Program Information

1. Language of instruction: English & Chinese

2. Objective of programs:

Beginner’s Class: to pass HSK 3

Intermediate Class: to pass HSK 5

3. Duration of the program: 1-2 semesters

4. Fees

a. Registration: 400 RMB/person

b. Insurance: 800 RMB/person/year

c. Tuition: 7,000 RBM/person/semester, 14,000 RMB/person/academic years

d. Accommodation fee: 600 RMB/month/person (a single room in three-bedroom international student’s apartment on Xipu Campus, utilities not included.)

Note: Registration fee is not refundable. Once the class starts, all fees are not refundable; students can live off campus or apply for on-campus apartment if available

III. Requirements for application

1. Non-Chinese citizens, physically and mentally healthy, abide by China’s laws and regulations well as regulations of SWJTU, and have no record of violation of laws or regulations.

2. Applicants must be between the ages of 17 and 50.

3. Applicants should be able to afford to study and live in China during the program;

Note: Applicants for the spring semester should complete the application on the above websites before January 10, 2025, and applicants for the fall semester should complete the application on the above websites before June 30, 2025, with an application fee of 400 RMB (non-refundable).

(II) Application Procedure

1. School system application (very important): please submit the application in the university application system (https://admission.swjtu.edu.cn).

2. Preliminary review by the university: the university will examine the applicant’s qualifications in accordance with the enrollment requirements. Applicants who pass the preliminary review are required to pay an application fee of RMB 400. The application fee is non-refundable regardless of whether they are finally admitted or not.

3. Issuance of admission notice: the university will send the admission notification and DQ/JW202 form.

VI. Other Notes

1. Applicants must ensure the authenticity of the application materials and will be disqualified if the materials are found to be inaccurate.

2. All applications must be submitted online. E-mail applications or paper applications will not be accepted.

3. Please be sure to provide a correct e-mail address and mailing address. We will confirm each item of important information via e-mail, so be sure to check it daily.

4. During the study period, students shall observe the laws and decrees of China as well as the rules and regulations of SWJTU. SWJTU will take corresponding measures if a student violates related laws, regulations or rules. The student will take full responsibility for any related consequence.

5. The final explanation of the content above is subject to SIE, SWJTU.
