Southwest Jiaotong University is a national key university directly under the management of Ministry of Education, the first batch of “double first-class”, “211 project”, “985 project advantageous disciplines innovation platform”, “2011 Collaborative Innovation Program” key construction universities, with a graduate school. It is located in Chengdu, a famous historical and cultural city in China, a national center city and the core city of “Chengdu-Chongqing Twin-city Economic Circle”. The Chinese Government Scholarship Program for Silk Road Program is a full scholarship program established by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, which is to support outstanding foreign students from The Belt and Road Initiative cooperation countries to study in China.

III. Eligibility
1. Non-Chinese citizens, physically and mentally healthy;
2. Applicants applying to study for Ph.D. program in China should have a master's degree or equivalent, have excellent academic performance, and be no older than 40 years old;
3. Applicants for Master's program in China should have a bachelor's degree or equivalent, have excellent academic performance and be no older than 35 years old;
4. The Chinese language proficiency of applicants applying for master's or doctoral programs taught in Chinese shall reach HSK Level 4;
5. Meet the admission requirements of Southwest Jiaotong University in terms of academic ability, language ability and other relevant conditions.
IV. Application Procedure and Website
1) Application in CSC system
Login to the Management Information System of Chinese Government Scholarships for Studying in China (CSC): studyinchina.csc.edu.cn select TypeB, enter the accepting organization No. 10613 (Southwest Jiaotong University), fill in the information and submit it online, and then download the Application Form of Chinese Government Scholarship.
2) University system application (very important)
After completing the application on the CSC website, you must also submit the application in the University application system Southwest Jiaotong University: https://admission.swjtu.edu.cn/ and the relevant documents must be exactly the same as those in the CSC system (Note: If you do not apply on the website of Southwest Jiaotong University, we will not be able to accept your application).
Applicants should complete the application on the above two websites before Early May, 2025 (exact date will be updated later).
3) Preliminary review
The application will be reviewed in accordance with the enrollment requirements, and then the academic schools will review the application. Applicants who pass the preliminary examination are required to pay an application fee of RMB 400 yuan (the application fee is non-refundable regardless of whether they are finally admitted or not).
4) Academic review
Each academic school will organize expert review to comprehensively evaluate the applicant's academic ability, language proficiency, educational background, and development potential through interviews or written tests.
V. Application Documents
1) Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (in Chinese or English)
2) A Copy of the applicant’s passport
If the validity of the applicant’s current passport does not meet the requirement (meaning the passport expires before September 2025), please apply for a new passport before submitting the application.
3) Notarized highest diploma
Prospective diploma recipients must submit official proof of student status or expected graduation date by their current school. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
4) Academic transcripts (in Chinese or English)
Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
5) A study plan(in Chinese or English)
A minimum of 1000 words in Chinese or English.
6) Recommendation Letters (in Chinese or English)
Two recommendation letters from associate professor or professor (ONLY 2024 or 2025 letters are accepted).
7) Applicants under the age of 18 must submit relevant documents about their statutory guardians in China.
8) Foreigner Physical Examination Form (photocopy)
The original copy should be kept by the applicant. The form is uniformly printed by Chinese healthy quarantine departments. It must be written in Chinese or English. The physical examinations must cover all items listed in the form (provided in the appendix I). Incomplete forms or forms without the signature of the attending physician, or the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant are considered as invalid. Please carefully plan your physical examination schedule as the result is valid for only 6 months.
9) Language Certificate
Applicants shall provide valid certificate of must submit valid HSK Level 4 or above for Chinese-instructed program. Applicants for other-language-taught programs shall provide relevant language proficiency certificates according to the universities’ requirements, like IELTS or TOFEL report.
10) Non-Criminal Record Report
The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of non-criminal record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.
VI. Other Notes
The final admission result of the Silk Road program will be announced in July or August 2025. Please be patient.
2. Applicants must ensure the authenticity of the application documents and will be disqualified if the materials are found to be inaccurate.
3. Chinese Government Scholarship students are not allowed to receive other scholarships (excluding all kinds of one-time awards) established by local governments and domestic universities at the same time. Once discovered, the qualification of Chinese government scholarship will be canceled, and the awarded Chinese government scholarship must be returned. Those who intentionally conceal their financial support will not be allowed to apply for Chinese Government Scholarships for three years, including the disqualification of their applications.
4. Related schools may interview or exam the applicant by phone or internet. Please make sure the phone number and email address are correct in your application.
5. All applications must be submitted online. E-mail applications or paper applications will not be accepted.
6. Please offer the correct E-mail address and mailing address. We will confirm all detailed important information via E-mail. Please make sure to check it every day.
7. SWJTU does not allow any individual or intermediary agency to accept applications for Chinese Government Scholarships.
